While the sweet taste of ice cream can tickle your tastebuds and the cold treat can cool you down, it is one of the top foods that promote tooth decay.
When it comes to food, sweets are the worst for your teeth because of the high amount of sugar that the sweet treats contain. These sugars could increase your chances for tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease.
Sugar is bad for your teeth because when you take sugar into your body, plaque takes in sugar and increases. Feeding the plaque in your mouth will only make matters worse which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.
This plaque buildup needs to be removed by your hygienist, which is why regular cleanings are essential to a healthy oral health and overall total body health.
When you do indulge in this cool, sweet treat, try to follow these tips:
1) Avoid adding excess toppings. More toppings=More sugars
2) Try grabbing a sugar-free option (This will decrease the amount go sugar in the ice cream!)
3) Brush your teeth after eating your sweet treat
4) Try an alternative: Ice cream isn’t just made with milk anymore, some have been made with frozen bananas and almond milk. These are much better options for your health.
